The challenge was to make a complex, multi-generational history engaging and accessible to contemporary audiences. The experience needed to connect Nanawada and Pune with the national freedom movement, bring significant personalities and lesser-known stories to life, represent diverse forms of resistance and social reform, and create a coherent journey across multiple periods and narratives.
Lokusdesign approached the Swarajya Museum as a narrative-driven heritage experience, using spatial storytelling to transform historical information into an immersive journey from Context → Resistance → Revolution → Political Awakening → Social Transformation. Character-led narratives, period environments, dramatic installations, timelines, contextual displays, and immersive scenography create a rhythm of context, character, conflict, and transformation.
The result is more than a museum of history – it is a space for learning, remembrance, and civic engagement that brings local stories into the larger narrative of India’s freedom movement. By bringing people, ideas, struggles, and choices to life, the experience invites visitors to understand not only what happened, but why it mattered and how it shaped the India we know today.
