Introduction

The Gandhi Vatika Museum in Jaipur is a philosophy-led experiential museum that interprets the life, values, and enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi through immersive storytelling and museum design. Moving beyond historical chronology, the experience invites visitors to engage with timeless ideas such as truth, non-violence, ethical leadership, and collective welfare, presenting them as living principles that continue to shape contemporary conversations around peace, justice, sustainability, and human responsibility.

The Challenge

Designing a museum around one of the most documented figures in modern history required a fresh perspective. The challenge was to move beyond a chronological retelling of the freedom struggle and present Gandhi as a moral philosopher, social reformer, and global thought leader. Equally important was translating abstract concepts such as Satyagraha, Ahimsa, truth, and ethical self-discipline into meaningful spatial experiences that could resonate intellectually and emotionally with a diverse audience comprising students, families, scholars, and international visitors.

Our Approach & Overall Impact

We approached the project through a values-driven storytelling framework that positioned Gandhiji not merely as a historical leader, but as a philosopher of ethical action and social transformation. Rather than following a linear timeline, the museum experience unfolds through thematic zones that explore the making of Gandhi, the philosophy of Satyagraha, his inner journey of self-transformation, and the enduring influence of his ideas.

Through immersive scenographic installations, multimedia environments, interactive exhibits, narrative storytelling, and thoughtfully choreographed spatial experiences, Lokusdesign transformed Gandhian philosophy into an engaging and deeply reflective visitor experience. The result is a contemporary museum that transcends historical interpretation to become a space for moral inquiry, civic reflection, and personal discovery – demonstrating the enduring relevance of Gandhiji’s ideas for a more compassionate, responsible, and sustainable future.
