Cadbury Celebrations operated in a highly competitive gifting environment where the pack itself becomes part of the gift.
The visible brief was to redesign the packaging.
The hidden business brief was:
How could Cadbury increase the perceived value of Celebrations and strengthen its relevance as a gifting choice without proportionately increasing packaging costs?
The existing pack had limited premium presence and had to compete not only with established gifting brands, but with an expanding universe of alternative gifts.
The business needed the pack to:
• Create stronger shelf and gifting impact.
• Look sufficiently premium to eliminate the need for additional wrapping.
• Make the act of opening and presenting the gift more memorable.
• Strengthen Cadbury Celebrations’ role across festivals and personal occasions.
• Deliver greater perceived value within defined production-cost constraints.
The opportunity was therefore to make the packaging work harder:
More perceived value → stronger gifting appeal → greater brand preference
Lokusdesign reframed packaging from a protective container into a key part of the gifting experience.
We combined consumer insight, brand strategy, and structural innovation to redesign both the physical form and the experience of giving.
Multiple structural directions, including flip lids, vertical formats and sliding trays, were explored to create a stronger presence, intuitive opening, and a more premium unboxing experience.
The design decisions worked simultaneously across several business levers:
CAC ↓
A more distinctive and premium pack increased shelf visibility and gifting relevance, helping the product compete more effectively for attention and consideration.
CapEx ↓
Structural innovation was developed within defined production constraints, creating greater presentation value without relying on expensive secondary wrapping or unnecessarily complex construction.
OpEx ↓
The pack integrated presentation and gifting into the product itself, reducing the need for additional wrapping and associated handling.
Value ↑
Better structure, opening experience, reusability and visual presence increased the perceived value of the gift without simply increasing the physical cost of the product.
Scale ↑
The design language created a platform that could work across multiple gifting occasions and pack formats while retaining the recognisable warmth and equity of Cadbury Celebrations.
Lokusdesign transformed Cadbury Celebrations from a chocolate pack into a more complete gifting experience.
Structural Innovation → Better Presentation → Premium Perception → Stronger Gifting Relevance → Greater Brand Value
The redesign strengthened shelf presence, elevated the unboxing experience, and increased the perceived value of the gift while working within production constraints.
